PaddlePath β€” Pickleball Cheat Sheet

Master the kitchen

πŸ“Core Rules

  • Serve: underhand, contact below the navel, paddle head below wrist, land cross-court.
  • Two-bounce rule: serve must bounce, return must bounce β€” then volleys are allowed.
  • The Kitchen (NVZ): 7 ft each side β€” no volleying while touching it or its line.
  • Scoring: only the serving team scores; games to 11, win by 2. Call score–score–server# (e.g. 4-2-1).

🎯Shot Checklist

  • Grip: continental "handshake," pressure ~4/10.
  • Serve/return: deep & down the middle, then move up.
  • Dink: soft push, knees bent, land it in the kitchen.
  • Third-shot drop: low & slow arc into the NVZ, advance behind it.
  • Volley: compact punch, feet outside the kitchen.
  • Topspin: brush low-to-high, close the face.

🧠Strategy

  • Get to the kitchen line as fast as it's safe β€” the team at the net wins most points.
  • Drop when they're set; drive when the ball sits up.
  • Only speed up a ball above net height; aim at the dominant hip.
  • Move as a unit and cover the middle; talk on every ball.

πŸ› οΈQuick Fixes

  • Dinks popping up? Bend knees, contact out front, push don't swing.
  • Getting jammed? Shorter, more compact backswing.
  • Losing the net? Return deeper and charge in behind it.
  • Attacked at your feet? Reset soft β€” absorb, don't hit.
